My Teaching Philosophy Statement :: Teaching Teachers Education Essays

My Teaching Philosophy Statement The teaching profession is one of great stature. The public views this career as very respectable, even little children one dream of one day becoming a teacher. Teachers are special people that have the opportunity to touch and change hundreds of lives over the course of their own. Those wishing to make a difference in the world today will find that teaching is the way to do that. These, along with many others, are the reasons behind my choice to become a teacher. My philosophical stance regarding education is very eclectic. My views are not a mix of just two or three stances but instead all four. I am very much an idealist in the respect that I believe it is essential for a teacher to know their content. Students know when a teacher is highly educated in the content they are teaching. I believe that teachers will have more respect and class involvement from their students if the students view them as well educated. My realistic views relate to having classroom management plan that is dictated in the beginning. I believe that the teacher should be seen as the ruler of the classroom. Students should be told up front what is expected from them throughout the course of the year, and explained the purpose for proper behavior and order in the classroom. If these rules are dictated at the very beginning of the year it will be easy to punish those who fail to follow rules. I am also an existentialist in the since that I feel students should be given some choices, maybe not so much in the rules of the classroom, but in the ways in which they want to learn. Some children learn better in groups, some prefer hands on activities and others like to get material out of a textbook. I believe children should get to choose how they would like to complete certain assignments. Last I feel I am somewhat a pragmatist.

Bad Decisions Essay

I have realized recently that friends should not have any affect at all on the decisions you make in life. It does not matter whether you are a middle school student, high school student, college student, or even a grown and mature adult. Making a wrong decision at the wrong time can have many negative affects on life, I know because I’ve been there. A wrong decision might only affect you temporarily or it could stay with you for the rest of your life. It could cost you a job or could keep you from getting into the college you dreamed of going to your whole life. The bad decisions are too much to risk. In a way, decisions should be made & held responsible only by the person making them. You should always think of how they will affect yourself and others. Never let a friend or anyone else force you to make a choice that could wind up hurting yourself or anybody. Always be careful, it could be something that could stick with you for life. Even think about how it could affect your family and friends. Would they be embarrassed by this choice? Would they be proud to tell other people about what you have done? Decision making can be seen as hard but also a very important skill. Some people may view it as an easy everyday thing, but to some it is harder. It is not always naturally apparent to some. My grandfather would say some people are born leaders and easily make decisions and some just are just not gifted in those areas. People should just make sure to evaluate the situation previous to making a decision that could hurt you or others. Taking advice from friends can be helpful, just think it through and make sure it is really the best thing for you too. But, keep in mind friends don’t always know what is best for you. Sometimes they don’t realize how it can affect you and they don’t even do this on purpose. I can even admit seeing myself doing it sometimes. Then again, this picture will fade when having fun, but make sure you always have it at reach in the back of your head. You never know when something could go wrong and ruin your life and opportunities. It is very important to always think of your future and what you want to do later in life. If you have always dreamed to go to medical school and become a OB/GYN don’t go out and under-age drink at a party and then go driving. You think now that you would never do anything like that, but in the moment you never know. Lots of people get caught in the moment and make a mistake thinking that most people get away with it. But if you go out there and drive drunk and kill a perfectly responsible person who has good judgment and makes good decisions you will be forced to live with that for the rest of your life. You will have to face their family face to face and tell them that you are the reason they lost their loved one. You also have to say how it was because of a bad decision. You just got caught up in the moment and wound up killing someone perfectly innocent. It goes from talking or being funny in class to something as serious as killing someone. Just imagine yourself in that scenario. When it comes to situations like this , nothing is funny anymore, it serious. It might seem that when you are young there is nothing to worry about, that you’re untouchable and nothing will happen to you, but really everything you do affects your future. Not only because of your actions at that point but by getting use to making careless decisions some people never grow out of the habit. Before you know it, at 21 they are still the same people they were when they were 15. Bad decisions affect everybody , not just the person responsible but everyone around.

Quantitative and Qualitative Research

Research procedures depends on the analyzing data and questions on the topic being researched. All research can be differentiated on the basis of whether its methodology produces mostly numerical data (e. g. , scores and measurements) or mostly narrative data (e. g. , verbal descriptions and opinions) (Mertler, C. & Charles, C. 2011, p 24). Qualitative research and quantitative research are two types of research methods. Qualitative research involves analysis of data such as words, pictures, or objects. The purpose of qualitative research is of a complete, detailed description. Most researchers may not know exactly what he/she might be looking for in advance. Qualitative is usually recommended during the early phases of the research to help design the search as it is further researched. When data is being gathered, it is usually done by the researcher. The data consist of mainly words, pictures or objects. Qualitative data is time consuming and is harder to generalize the data gathered. Qualitative is useful for studying a limited number of cases, it is based on categories of meaning, provide individual case information. This type of research is great for understanding personal experiences form an insider’s viewpoint and how the participant interprets the data such as self-esteem. Qualitative researches also have weaknesses to consider. Some of the findings might be unique to the research study and not generalize to other people or settings. Qualitative research is difficult to make quantitative predictions. Hypothesis and theories are difficult to test and have lower credibility with some administrators of programs. Qualitative takes more time to collect data than it does for quantitative research. Qualitative is influenced by the researcher’s personal biases than statistics. Quantitative research is to classify the features and count them. Quantitative research is usually an attempt to construct statistical models to explain what is being observed. Before performing the research, the researcher clearly knows in advance what is being searched and trying to prove/not prove the hypothesis or theory. Quantitative research is carefully designed and uses tools to help collect numerical data. This type of research can be placed in a statistic or numerical form. The researcher is usually seeking predicament of measurement and analysis of the topic being researched. The researcher gives proven data and does not apply own personal feelings. Quantitative research has much strength for its purpose. When using quantitative research, testing and validating theories are being performed. Hypotheses are able to be tested and data can be constructed from the information collected. Researchers are able to construct situations to eliminate any confounding influences of different variables; this would allow more credibility to the cause-and-effect for the topic. Quantitative research is less time consuming since it is easier to find software or just log in numbers from the results that the researcher have proven. This type of research is great for hypothesis and theories. Quantitative research also has some weaknesses with its research. This type of research might have a hard time reflecting on local areas. Due to the focus on the hypothesis or theory testing, the researcher might miss out on phenomena occurring. The knowledge that is produced from quantitative research might be too much abstract and general for direct application to help with local situations. Quantitative research requires exact, true findings with the research. Qualitative and quantitative research can be hot debates in social sciences. When performing a research, the focus is on how the techniques need to be integrated. The researcher must know what kind of outcome they are searching for. This will help the researcher to decide on whether to use quantitative or qualitative research techniques. Both methods are great debates and require skills to perform throughout the research of any topic. In performing Dolphin Assisted Therapy research, qualitative research is my perspective of the topic. I will not be able to perform quantitative research due to it would take some time and access to the dolphin with the patients. My purpose of this research is to give details of how using dolphins with those of different ages who has different types of disabilities can help in many ways. It would be hard to give statistical numbers on a research that relies on personal experiences and personal viewpoints. During research, I will be looking at testimonials from patients that have had the opportunities to engage in dolphin assisted therapy. Each patient will be different than the other. One patient may have autism, depression, central-nervous-system deficiencies, birth defects, behavioral problems, and even traumatic injuries. Even though Dolphin Assisted Therapy has not been proven to be a medical fix, but it can be a mind-over-body healing, DAT does have its benefits. In my research, the testimonies will help show how DAT can be a good resource for some of those out there who have no more hope in a cure of any sort. References (2011). Argument Paper Assignment (frankenstein by mary shelley, penguin Essay

Argument Paper Assignment (frankenstein by mary shelley, penguin classic) - Essay Example He tries to understand masculinity, science, medicine, and surgery. According to Enderle and Shelly (233), he precisely explores the internal conflicts felt by practitioners in a variety of field. He reveals his urge to explore throughout the novel, always trying to discover a new life. In his effort to explore, he comes out to be unstable since he changes from time to time and a person with a lot of uncertainty. This also makes him ambiguous and very difficult to understand due to the way he behave and react towards nature and other people. In most cases, Frankenstein was learning from nature, mainly through observing what is going on around him and through what he experienced. By watching firewood next to the fire, he learns that it dries out and catches fire. Only a model human being who is concerned about nature and what is around him can do this. Moreover, by observing how other people react towards him, he learns that his appearance causes fear among other people (Joshua 47). He had made nature to be his teacher relying mainly from what he can sense and what he can observe as his source of knowledge (Enderle and Shelly 34). He does this to learn both about people and about the environment. However, he does not perceive that the knowledge he obtains might be inaccurate or inappropriate. Frankenstein had an ardent curiosity and a strong desire to excel and triumph in his undertakings. This can be shown by his dedication and determination to understand the relationship between human beings and their environment (Enderle and Shelly 53). He always tries to learn from everything he observes and everything he senses. He has a strong curiosity to understand what is happening in the world among different practitioners and nature. This can be clearly shown by his desire to understand the internal conflicts in different practitioners and his desire to understand science (Enderle and Shelly 36). He tries to understand how character can be formed

A Report on Social Marketing Campaign Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

A Report on Social Marketing Campaign - Essay Example The spread of HIV and AIDS is mainly caused by social and health problems, therefore social marketing offers mechanisms for solving such problems through encouraging people to live healthier lifestyles. According to Kotler & Roberto (1989); Rogers (1995), the idea of diffusion and social marketing has been transformed to form strategies for use by the public throughout Asia, Africa, North America and south America. According to the United Nations, in the past two decades 60 million people have been infected by HIV/AIDS and reportedly 20 million deaths have been reported. Ninety-five percent of the infected population presently live in developing countries. The report on the Global HIV/AIDS Epidemic, UNAIDS (2002) warned that unless prevention and treatment measures are put in place and followed diligently, over 68 million people would die in the next 20 years. Established cases of HIV/AIDS infection have increased in occurrence throughout different region and numerous countries repor t severe HIV epidemics amongst injecting drug users (IDUs). The countries with high frequency of HIV infections among IDUs are Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, India and Iran. Justification One of the major HIV/AIDS epidemic accelerants is the drug abuse and misuse. The major barrier in the fight against new HIV infections, recent drug use and emerging responses is the limited up-to date information on the magnitude of the problem. Reports across several countries on the number of HIV infection cases show drastic increase among IDUs. Countries in transition and especially developing countries are extremely susceptible to drug abuse and the risks associated therewith, piling serious burden on already frail health and social facilities. UNAIDS (2002) and WHO (2004) state that there was and still is the potential for a main outbreak of HIV among the IDUs particularly in Russia and bordering countries in the Eastern Europe and in other numerous countries es pecially across Asia. In some countries with high HIV frequency among the IDUs, HIV prevention measures have been implemented however reports of low effective impact ability upon epidemic among the IDUs is due to their limited availability and thus receive few drug users. On the other hand some assessed countries are yet to enact policies that specifically address HIV/AIDS issues affecting the IDUs. Some countries rarely address the issue before it becomes an epidemic and therefore the policy makers and programs tasked with the drug use and HIV are deemed unnecessary. Across the world over, HIV and AIDS response in Australia is recognised as a success. The national prevalence is lower compared to other high income countries. Through peer education and community based organisations the IDUs, gay communities, and sex workers in Australia on a national gesture prepared early and efficient on the embryonic crisis such as providing support, care and education on the importance of safe se x and drug injecting practises. Initially, the government and healthcare professionals established sturdy leadership program, across the affected communities and the epidemic at large. Australia continues to utilize and gain from the good leadership foundation and the level of the policy innovation. For instance, the implementation of

Animal rights Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words - 1

Animal rights - Essay Example In that regard therefore, awareness on the rights of both human beings and animals need to be brought to the attention of the world. After shedding light as to what right entails, the general public then automatically holds the responsibility of asking why. Here, it is realized that the rights of humans are well found on the basis of the animals rights. It is clear that animal rights establish what is termed as a philosophical stand for the human rights, just as is put clear in Reagan’s theory where he considers life as the body of integrity and argues that it is to be protected. The theory further argues on the study by Tuskegee that the liberty of individual beings has to be protected. The moral theory extends this same protection to all sorts of life forms out in there globe. It beats one’s sense of reason when one tries to consider animals in the category of subject of life. Animals are subject-of-life. In reality, common sense should apply in such instances. Firstly, the behavior of both human beings and animals are the same; human beings and animals have a psychological supportive linkage that explains the similarity between the two. Firstly, the behavior of both humans and animals are the same; human beings and animals have a psychological supportive linkage that explains their similarity. It should be noted that if the rights of human beings are founded in the rights of who they are, then the rights of animals are also rooted in the sense of belonging that the human beings share. It is realized that individuals with experimental mind sets have their warfare aspects directly affects matters of their personal character. This sort of interest tends to override the common sense that supports the real aspect of rights. The science of judgment and ethical evaluations are blinded by the struggle to make an outcome from their internal element of success. In the experiment, world’s scientists have a role to
